Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies

I just started this one, I’m on case 2 (the yokai one) and I was talking in chat about it and someone asked if I’d met Prosecutor Blackquill yet and I had to admit I hadn’t, just a mention of him. But I was intrigued. So I played some more and now I know why people were excited because he is AMAZING. He’s like a horror movie Prosecutor, with the chains and makeup and the slasher killer.

I really like Athena Cykes (nice dual Greek name) as the new lawyer and battle damage!Apollo is adorable.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about the new animation style but it’s growing on me, especially all the new things they can do now.

Fulbright is fun and I was joking that someone needs to do something about his devotion to justice and Apollo Justice, in the insinuation sense. I love the Yokai designs and Ted Tonate was a fantastic villain. The stuff they did with his goggles and the minor smile/frowns at the start were fantastic.

Phoenix is no longer a dirtbag (looking) but he’s cleaned up real nice.

Apparently Trucy and Apollo still have no idea they’re siblings but I’m very sure they’re not going to pull a Skywalker so it’s not a problem, really. But I hope to see that discovery soon. And also I hope the game will tell me where the Feys are.

Miles, I assume, is somewhere.

Finished Apollo Justice

Oh man oh man I really liked this. I’ve been working on this game for 2 years, partially because I was reluctant to really get into it given how hard it was (at the time) to get my hands on Dual Destinies and the fact the third game wasn’t even translated.

Then it came to switch! And so did the Miles Edgeworth games! So that’s great.

I guessed two years ago that Apollo and Trucy were siblings because of their eyes and orphan-ness and the person I asked just went ‘I don’t really remember the games that well’ and I would have thought another person was just trying not to spoil me but you know what, I don’t miss talking about games with that person. It was very unrewarding even though they were always initiating it.

So! I finished the game while on vacation and away from WoW and I’d also correctly guessed who their mother was, so that was cool. No idea why she ditched baby Apollo though, maybe that’ll be reviewed in a later game. Maybe in Dual Destinies! Which I started now!

But back to Apollo Justice – I keep saying that Apollo is such a good boy and doesn’t deserve the shit Phoenix and Trucy give him. I think Trucy is exactly the daughter Phoenix should have, though. A really well matched pair. And I loved seeing Phoenix at the height of his career right before it all came crashing down – he was ready for what happened, the build up was great.

I need to look up the ‘bad ending’ on youtube – I forgot to save before I spared Vera Misham so I haven’t been able to see it yet.

I missed the clue about the ‘spiked hair’ also applying to Kristoph because I didn’t realize that thing he did with his hair was a spike, I thought it was just a really tight curl. I forgot this was an Ace Attorney game, with the wild character designs. I love the designs.

Honestly my favourite part of this game was dirtbag Phoenix. It suited him so well.

I’m still wondering where the hell the Feys are though.

Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice

I’ve been working on this game for uhh well I bought it new, anyway. And it’s been on my sideboard in sleep mode for several months now which is you know, not great.

Anyway I just finished Turnabout: Serenade and I want to say that while I really enjoy the Ace Attorney series, it’s wild how I can only seem to play it for a short time at a time before having to close the gameboy and walk away for a while.

But also I want to say that I am so glad I don’t have to watch that music video again. And again. And again.

I really liked Daryan Crescend’s design, I keep wondering if there’s more to Apollo than we know already, and how the magician through-plot is going to work out now that I’m on Turnabout: Succession and there’s you know, clearly a plot involving them this time.

It’s interesting seeing Phoenix from an outside perspective. He really is kinda dirtbaggy but I imagine he’s freaking out/being sarcastic in his head while he deals with us/Apollo. I like him anyway.

The Blackwell Deception Post 2

All right! Out of the tutorial and into the main game!

When Jeremy Sams came out of his bedroom Not Among The Living I went ‘oooh’. Now that’s how you start a case. Plus all the mysteries attached – how did he call you? Where is his body? (It wasn’t in the bedroom dead of flu like I expected)? And it seems new agers are the enemy of the day. You know, Rosangela’s main customers.

I really like Rosangela but Joey is such a whiny little baby. Definitely a case of ‘if we weren’t cursed to be together, we would never hang out’. I’m intrigued by the man what knows Joey. Mr. Nobody. I like how the names change depending on if you’re viewing it as Rosa or Joey.

Really enjoying the emails that she gets in her phone, I keep checking to see who’s contacted her now. Callbacks to old games!

Grim Tales: The Final Suspect Session 1

Oh boy! So Ms. Gray has been accused of MURDER (that’s us, the protagonist!) and we must see if we really did it or not! Now you finally get to see what HER house is like after seeing the weird houses of her family and no surprise, it’s also full of weird locks and puzzles. Every day must be an adventure to get the coffee creamer.

I’m also periodically being haunted by the murder victim which is awesome. Not sarcasm! I love the scares! This is really fun so far!

I swear to god if Purolator pulls this I will be VERY annoyed.

I quit when I got tired but so far I’m intrigued to find out if I really shanked a guy. And why.

Return of the Obra Dinn: Session 2

What a compelling, fascinating game whose camera controls make me so motion sick I have to lie down after a thirty minute session.

Anyway I’m really enjoying this and hope to eventually finish it without throwing up. I got my first three fates correct and then the next chapter is like ‘hmm. That’s an unexpected amount of tentacles’

Grim Tales: Color of Fright Session 2 (or possibly 3?)

Well it’s been so long I forgot I was in the middle of this game. Fortunately I had sort of left a note of where I left off? Except I think I’m missing something in the middle because I definitely did rescue John Gray between now and the last post.

Either way, Thomas Gray continued to be up to no good with his obsession with his adopted sister.

I did what I did best which was set fire to shit and that solved the problem.

I also found this:

It’s named Screamy and I love it. I apologize for not capturing a picture of the squid ‘Deep Curse’

So then I did the bonus chapter where we discover murder and arson may be solved with a hug? Except, of course, then I unlocked the secret room where he was like ‘surprise! I built a bomb! HAHA’

So Thomas… I’m sorry you’re not the best representation of mental illness the media has to offer. It does not seem to be very pleasant.

Setting up the next game, The Final Suspect, I discover that the game after it, Threads of Destiny, is NOT available for purchase! No idea why.

But thankfully over on the Hidden Object Games Wiki (which has been invaluable for me knowing what order to play these in), users Fuufou, Omega-003, and Angel998 have all worked together to give me a detailed summary to reference so I know what I’ll be missing. Thank you, brave soldiers.

Grim Tales: Color of Fright Session 1

This session was aborted early on account of migraine (unrelated, existing medical issue) so it may be a little coloured in review by the pain/nausea I was going through.

So I mentioned previously that game technology was going to start leaping ahead and it has but I’m not sure I like how it has. Instead of a single room view I now have to swish back and forth to look around which is hard to remember to do and has glitched out on me at least once. Also the ‘repair the item!’ mechanic is still ongoing, this time with added ‘unlock the features in the hidden object section before you can click the hidden objects!’ which made me fussy but again, I was in a lot of pain.

The art’s really nice, as usual. And I like seeing the protagonist puzzle out the crime.

As for the motive of the villain in this, if he talked like this before he was put away I’m surprised he lasted that long before they tried to find him professional help.

I dig that this is a reunion episode game with… Brandon Gray absent with a ‘see you some other time!’ note.

But John Gray’s here and he IS in peril.

Hi, John Gray. I’m using my psychic powers to sense you’re about to have a really sucky evening as usual.

Here we go, back in the pit/dungeon where he deserves.

Grim Tales: The Vengeance Session 3 (final)

The bonus chapter! I was wondering what it would address and guessed sort of right that it would be the family story of the Maxwells and the sudden appearance of the magic amulet near the end of the original game.

I undid MANY deaths and uh, may have prevented an entire life. Yet somehow the guy’s son still happened? I don’t know. Time wimey travel.

The important thing is that a bunch of zombies only SORT of looked like they were going to eat me and I saw a minotaur that actually looked like part cow part man.

Those are the proportions of a bull, my friend. Also deeply unsettling
