Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies

I just started this one, I’m on case 2 (the yokai one) and I was talking in chat about it and someone asked if I’d met Prosecutor Blackquill yet and I had to admit I hadn’t, just a mention of him. But I was intrigued. So I played some more and now I know why people were excited because he is AMAZING. He’s like a horror movie Prosecutor, with the chains and makeup and the slasher killer.

I really like Athena Cykes (nice dual Greek name) as the new lawyer and battle damage!Apollo is adorable.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about the new animation style but it’s growing on me, especially all the new things they can do now.

Fulbright is fun and I was joking that someone needs to do something about his devotion to justice and Apollo Justice, in the insinuation sense. I love the Yokai designs and Ted Tonate was a fantastic villain. The stuff they did with his goggles and the minor smile/frowns at the start were fantastic.

Phoenix is no longer a dirtbag (looking) but he’s cleaned up real nice.

Apparently Trucy and Apollo still have no idea they’re siblings but I’m very sure they’re not going to pull a Skywalker so it’s not a problem, really. But I hope to see that discovery soon. And also I hope the game will tell me where the Feys are.

Miles, I assume, is somewhere.

Finished Apollo Justice

Oh man oh man I really liked this. I’ve been working on this game for 2 years, partially because I was reluctant to really get into it given how hard it was (at the time) to get my hands on Dual Destinies and the fact the third game wasn’t even translated.

Then it came to switch! And so did the Miles Edgeworth games! So that’s great.

I guessed two years ago that Apollo and Trucy were siblings because of their eyes and orphan-ness and the person I asked just went ‘I don’t really remember the games that well’ and I would have thought another person was just trying not to spoil me but you know what, I don’t miss talking about games with that person. It was very unrewarding even though they were always initiating it.

So! I finished the game while on vacation and away from WoW and I’d also correctly guessed who their mother was, so that was cool. No idea why she ditched baby Apollo though, maybe that’ll be reviewed in a later game. Maybe in Dual Destinies! Which I started now!

But back to Apollo Justice – I keep saying that Apollo is such a good boy and doesn’t deserve the shit Phoenix and Trucy give him. I think Trucy is exactly the daughter Phoenix should have, though. A really well matched pair. And I loved seeing Phoenix at the height of his career right before it all came crashing down – he was ready for what happened, the build up was great.

I need to look up the ‘bad ending’ on youtube – I forgot to save before I spared Vera Misham so I haven’t been able to see it yet.

I missed the clue about the ‘spiked hair’ also applying to Kristoph because I didn’t realize that thing he did with his hair was a spike, I thought it was just a really tight curl. I forgot this was an Ace Attorney game, with the wild character designs. I love the designs.

Honestly my favourite part of this game was dirtbag Phoenix. It suited him so well.

I’m still wondering where the hell the Feys are though.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch: Trial By Fury

I like this show and it is funny and the shitty Salem puppet is a highlight of my life.

I don’t have much to say about this episode besides a reminder to my future self to think of their outfits around the number three cauldron when they made the just desserts spell.

Oh! Also! Sabrina’s nemesis the evil math teacher in this episode goes on to become Horatio Caine’s nemesis in CSI Miami.

I suggested Horatio against witch crime and was assured that if that had come up in CSI Miami, there would have been a plot that explained that Horatio actually came from a long line of witches and that’s why he’s so resistant to the sun.

All Creatures Great and Small: Advice and Consent

This is the 1978 series, bee tee dubs.

Oh, I love this show. I grew up reading the books and this show captures a lot of the feeling. The Farnons physical comedy is choice.

Speaking of the Farnons, I keep thinking that if either tried to kill the other, I would not blame them. I think Siegfried would have more of a vicious biting attack, but Tristan might try poison or traps. He’s tricky.

Tristan: *hangover*
Siegfried: *VOICE INTENSIFIES*

Them gossiping over James and how to help him out like old wives was absolutely choice. I loved it. Helen is lovely. I see why they want him to marry her so much.

Siegfried’s ‘I am basically your father and mother’ at James and Tristan’s dismay is also to my delight.

I accidentally clicked the modern one when I was trying to set up for watching and I knew something was wrong the moment I saw how good the film quality was. I’m not sure I want to watch that one. It’s not something I think of for a prestige channel.

Grantchester: Episode 1

I didn’t expect it to actually be named Episode 1 when I went back to put it in the post title! There you go.

So, my friend has been on me to watch Grantchester and her main selling point was that I would have a new ‘ginger prince’ by which I assume she’s trying some sort of CSI Miami intervention. I will never forsake my Hocaine. Never.

Though she was right, Sidney is a very pretty (also very large) man.

As for the show itself, my main thought was ‘this absolutely belongs on a channel called Masterpiece Theatre, this is absolutely the branding going on here’ – I wasn’t excited but I enjoyed it enough I’ll watch the next episode.

I’m not some thrill a minute addict or anything! It was just a little high on the soulful glances and war flashbacks.

Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice

I’ve been working on this game for uhh well I bought it new, anyway. And it’s been on my sideboard in sleep mode for several months now which is you know, not great.

Anyway I just finished Turnabout: Serenade and I want to say that while I really enjoy the Ace Attorney series, it’s wild how I can only seem to play it for a short time at a time before having to close the gameboy and walk away for a while.

But also I want to say that I am so glad I don’t have to watch that music video again. And again. And again.

I really liked Daryan Crescend’s design, I keep wondering if there’s more to Apollo than we know already, and how the magician through-plot is going to work out now that I’m on Turnabout: Succession and there’s you know, clearly a plot involving them this time.

It’s interesting seeing Phoenix from an outside perspective. He really is kinda dirtbaggy but I imagine he’s freaking out/being sarcastic in his head while he deals with us/Apollo. I like him anyway.

Belated: BBC Ghosts

I watched the whole first series a while back during the CSI Miami binge in what I can only describe as my body taking over, no commands from my brain, and turning on something, anything, that wasn’t CSI.

A fun show! It makes me want to watch more Horrible Histories.

I REALLY like Kitty. She is so sweet and funny.

The main couple are really funny/fun to watch, and the rest of the cast is fun. Pat is adorable. The concept of a caveman ghost is *excellent*.

Onto series 2 once I drag myself out of the CSI hole again. I don’t usually stick with sitcoms, so it’s nice to find one that I keep thinking about.

In fact, this is the entry I had to add the category ‘sitcom’. Previously it was just:

  • adventure
  • cartoons
  • mystery

My Life Is Murder: The Locked Room

I’m trying to watch something that isn’t CSI once in a while so I don’t fry something in my brain. I was in a Lucy Lawless mood, so I watched the second episode of My Life Is Murder.

Two thoughts: She needs to treat Madison a LOT better because Madison is an utter delight.

Second, this episode starts in early with her stealing milk from her cat’s dish for her cereal and I was like ‘oh right! She’s a gremlin in this show! A total gremlin!’

I was really rooting for the Malones. What a sad ending.

CSI NY: Tanglewood, Blood Sweat and Tears, Til Death Do We Part, Hush, The Fall

So back when CSI NY was first airing, I had what is known as a ‘drinking problem’ – I saw most of these episodes blitzed out of my mind originally. I’m noticing as I watch this that some of my memories don’t line up with the episodes. Like I thought they had a holodeck recreation thing in the first season? But no? Why has no one asked me ‘what are you talking about’ when I talked about that? Do they just assume THEY saw it?

Anyway, these particular block of episodes I’m noticing I’m remembering less and less what happened. Initially when I started I skipped two episodes because I remembered those plots and did NOT like them (The one with the rape in Central Park, the one with the amputee thing) but by the time I reach Hush, I have no memory. None. No idea what’s coming or who the killer was. And for Til Death Do We Part, I don’t know if I remembered the episode or just instinctively recognized them using an old urban legend.

From here on out, it should be like a first watch, maybe? I dunno. I certainly don’t recognize the next episode summary. Sobriety is fun and exciting.

I DO know I’ve seen the end of this season though – I remember Mac firing Aiden because he loved America so much. Although that memory might be a little distorted. I will miss Aiden. She is a fun character.

Stella grew up in an orphanage! Fun Stella fact.

CSI Miami and CSI NY comparisons

I’m deeply depressed right now and putting myself in a CSI-induced coma. Okay, with that out of the way, I’ve watched three+ seasons of CSI within a few days and now most of a season of CSI NY (to catch up to the crossover episode) and I have a few thoughts.

Given that I refuse to acknowledge CSI Cyber (computers! from the land of ghosts and witches!) because it’s stupid, rating the CSIs I have come to the surprising conclusion that based on what I’ve seen so far, CSI NY is actually the weakest of the CSIs which is a shame because it has the mathematically hottest cast, especially Stella Bonasera who has been my crush for years.

I keep pausing episodes of NY to go do other things like make characters in videogames, etc.

Anyway, things I like about CSI Miami:

Horatio is my ginger prince, the anti-pire, the one ginger who can stand in the direct Miami sun and not catch fire. I can’t even tell wtf is going on with his brother’s plot at this point and the whole Bob/Suzie/Cainechilde thing and it’s funny as hell that Horatio and Yelina both saw the Cainechilde in direct sunlight with her red hair and was like ‘she has the power… she is a caine!’

I like how Horatio is so dumb around Yelina. I mean, it’s absolutely frustrating to watch but if you pretend you hear a computer bluescreening whenever she asks him a question and he pauses, it gets pretty funny.

Calleigh is a delight. No notes.

Things I like about CSI NY/observations in good spirit:

Stella. Stella. Stella. The fact she was ready to remove the bullet from that horse with her own teeth out of bloodthirst.

Stella Bonasera from CSI NY with the text 'fuck them horses'
That horse was going down, one way or another.

When the parkourers ran away with all the cartwheels and flips and Mac and Stella watched emotionlessly.

The absolute inappropriateness of their theme song. “Out here in the fields, I fight for my meals” No, fuck you guys, if you saw a cow you’d cry. I think the CSIs ny believe there are three kinds of animals: Rats, cats, and pigeons. Dogs and horses are just ‘bigger rats’. They may think Flack is a rat. They definitely think Danny is a rat.

It’s been almost 20 years and I have yet to figure out what the British doctor and the wheelchair-using doctor are actually doing/their roles on the show. They just show up, give Mac advice, then leave. They may be ghosts?

I thought I remembered this show having a holodeck.

And finally I accidentally clicked on an episode of Miami when I meant to watch NY and I knew immediately I was on the wrong show because of the colours. I really enjoyed that particular choice by the makers.

Vegas: Green
NY: Blue
Miami: Orange
