Grim Tales: The Final Suspect Session 1

Oh boy! So Ms. Gray has been accused of MURDER (that’s us, the protagonist!) and we must see if we really did it or not! Now you finally get to see what HER house is like after seeing the weird houses of her family and no surprise, it’s also full of weird locks and puzzles. Every day must be an adventure to get the coffee creamer.

I’m also periodically being haunted by the murder victim which is awesome. Not sarcasm! I love the scares! This is really fun so far!

I swear to god if Purolator pulls this I will be VERY annoyed.

I quit when I got tired but so far I’m intrigued to find out if I really shanked a guy. And why.

Spider-Man The Animated Series: Secret Wars, Chapter 1: Arrival

Secret Wars, Chapter 1: Arrival

Madame Webb brings Spider-Man to meet her master, The Beyonder, who is preparing to put Spider-Man to the ultimate test. He sends Dr. Octopus, Dr. Doom, Smythe, Red Skull, and the Lizard off to destroy a peaceful planet and leaves Spider-Man to save it with his own selective team.

New storyline! Spider-Man in SPACE. I am interested that they went with ‘super assholes’ for Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm’s personality templates (Peter was like ‘I’ll just take the entire fantastic four for my team’), but there you go.

But who amongst us hasn’t needed a brief vacation of cosmic war between good and evil to recover from our wife evaporating in front of us?

It occurs to me that… maybe the Fantastic Four had a cartoon going on at this time? I know Iron Man did. So did Storm.

Good moments with the Lizard with Doc Connors’ mind in this. I like a thoughtful lizard man.

Return of the Obra Dinn: Session 2

What a compelling, fascinating game whose camera controls make me so motion sick I have to lie down after a thirty minute session.

Anyway I’m really enjoying this and hope to eventually finish it without throwing up. I got my first three fates correct and then the next chapter is like ‘hmm. That’s an unexpected amount of tentacles’

Phoebe and Her Unicorn vols 7 & 8

Unicorn of Many Hats

Solid, solid. Unicorn remains well drawn.

Unicorn Theatre

Another graphic novel! This time it’s about friendship and drama camp and drama and it involves seeing Marigold’s sister who has thankfully found a nasal spray that makes her stop snorting out spiders. I appreciated that detail a lot.

I always like the little vocab guides at the end in a ‘oh maybe I’ll learn words betterer’ kind of nerdlinger way.

Babysitter’s Little Sister: Karen’s Witch

Graphic novels of a formative book series of my childhood can go two ways, really. Horrifying realizations that the past wasn’t perfect, or fun takes on old nostalgia.

Anyway, this was fun. The art was fun. The story was well translated to the new medium.

I made the mistake of reading the reviews and I realized that maybe not everyone was identifying with Karen as a former Very Busy Child. But that is on them. Karen got up to shit I know I would have and I always found that very appealing.

This was one of three books (Mammal Takeover and One Pound Gospel were the others) that I read while on a tech support call for 5 and a half hours and I credit it with the ability to carry on. I got partway into a Nero Wolfe but that’s when the guy decided to surrender.

Mammal Takeover: Earth Before Us by Abby Howard

Oh ho ho ho. I love this series. I love Abby Howard’s art. I love how much I learn. I love how it reminded me tenrecs exist. I LOVE tenrecs.

I need to reread the first two, just because I like these so much.

I’ve got some of her horror comics from a recent Kickstarter and I’m revving myself up to read them. I love horror, I love Abby Howard’s writing, what’s to lose? My ability to sleep.
